A round table discussion was organized by the Center for International Strategic Studies (CISS) Islamabad titled “Maritime Doctrine of Pakistan” on August 31, 2016 at the CISS premises in Islamabad. The objective of the event was to discuss the suggested contours of Pakistan Maritime Strategy and the prevalent security environment in Indian Ocean Region by Commander (rtd) Mohammad Azam.
Commander (rtd) Mohammad Azam, senior research fellow from Pakistan Navy War College was the guest speaker at the roundtable. The round table was well attended by researchers, senior retired officers from Pakistan Navy, and members of the academia.
Speaking at the occasion, Commander Azam argued that the purpose of formulating Maritime Doctrine of Pakistan is to provide contextual clarity to all stake-holders or any other observers of Maritime Developments in Pakistan.
He underscored the importance of developing coherence and uniformity of thought and action within Pakistan Navy and cooperation with Army, Air force, Naval forces of friendly countries and coalition partners to achieve national interests.
Commander Azam explained the issues such as the Indian Ocean Region, maritime environment, maritime security, maritime interests of Pakistan, concepts governing application of maritime forces, principles of war at Sea and the role of Pakistani maritime forces.
The talk was followed by question and answer session where participants shared their analysis and inquired about the issues related to the topic.
