Dr. Syed Javaid Khurshid, Senior Research Fellow CISS, participated as an Invited Discussant in the Webinar on The Role of Science and Technology in National Progress, Growth and Competitiveness, 28th July, NIPS, NUST, Islamabad.
NUST Institute of Policy Studies, the NUST think tank, leading national policy research and advocacy forum, seeks to promote and enrich policy dialogue and furnish viable solutions. The question is do Pakistan, identify problems, capitalize on opportunities, develop its domestic S&T landscape, and acquire comparative advantages? To find balanced answers to these very pertinent questions, the NUST Institute of Policy Studies organized an International Webinar on the “Role of Science and Technology for National Progress, Growth and Competitiveness,” on Tuesday, 28 July 2020 at 1300 hours.
The virtual event was chaired by Lieutenant General Naweed Zaman (Retd), Rector NUST, and Patron NIPS. Dr. Nassar Ikram, NUST Pro-Rector of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (RIC), moderated the event. The three experts of the webinar were; Dr. Malcolm Parry, CEO Surrey Research Park, United Kingdom; Dr. Kang Dachen, Professor, Institute of Policy and Management, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS); and Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). The insights of webinar’s speakers and 10 invited discussants were very useful for S&T policymakers and researchers, relevant government officials, public and private R&D personnel and innovation managers, and university scholars with an interest in Pakistan’s competitiveness in S&T sector. Due to time constrain only five people including myself were able to participate in discussion.
