CISS was established in October 2010 and embarked upon a challenging task, that of promoting a better understanding of international strategic issues pertaining to our region, both in Pakistan and abroad. We feel that there is a need now, more than ever before, for objective and impartial analyses and assessments of international issues from a Pakistani perspective. For this purpose, a forum like the CISS is needed, to serve as a private, independent and non-partisan think-tank in Islamabad. In most national capitals, private, non-governmental think tanks are now a necessary part of the discourse and debates of international strategic issues. There is virtually no such forum at present, as the few think-tanks that are located here, are generally government run and financed, and suffer from limitations and constraints that such ownership entails. Despite their effort to produce independent and objective analysis, they have to perforce project government positions and points of view. They thus lack the impeccable credibility and are not in a position to provide meaningful policy inputs. It will be the endeavor of CISS to bring an independent perspective in its studies and analyses and make the difference
CISS has been established with locally generated resources. It greatly appreciates the contribution and support of its sponsors in making it possible for it to come into existence. It hopes that other donors and supporters will help in promoting its sustenance and growth.
